What Will Trucking Look Like in the New Year?

Updated December 2024

As we prepare to ring in another new year, it’s also a good time to prepare for what’s to come. For the trucking industry, there’s always something good to look forward to as new trends and advancements in technology are improving all the time!

New Industry Standards

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is always working to introduce new regulations and implement systems to increase safety within the trucking industry. In 2025, the FMCSA is continuing to work on emergency braking system mandates, increased speed limit rules for heavy trucks within specific areas, and new compliance regulations within the Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.

Increased Technology

Each year the trucking industry makes strides in technology, contributing to safety and efficiency within the trucking industry. In 2025 we’ll continue to see the implementation of adaptive cruise control and radar safety systems. Transportation management systems (TMS) and electronic logging devices (ELDs) will continue to get better as well, allowing drivers to optimize their routes, increase fuel efficiency, and increase productivity overall.

More Job Opportunities

As the production of goods increases each year, so does the need for transporting them. With this in mind, we can be sure that there will always be a need for truck drivers. According to the BLS, there are more than 240,000 job openings in the industry each year. Paring this with a steady growth rate, you can feel confident and secure knowing you’re in a great career field!
